Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D // TV Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!
Following on from Music Monday we have TV Tuesday although I'm sort of running out of other alliterative themes so don't expect this for the rest of the week.
In September I started seeing adverts for a Marvel TV show which intrigued me greatly being a fan of Marvel films *and the occasional comic*. Although I was confused as to how it was going to work, whether they where going to try and fit a movie plot into an hour show each week or if they were going to basically split a movie up into hour segments. I didn't really know what to expect but that just made me want to watch it even more.
I watched the first episode with my mum who didn't really rate the show at all but then again she's not really a fan of the Marvel films or the whole superhero concept in general. I, however, thought the first episode was quite good as first episodes go. I instantly warmed to the characters, especially since two of them are British *and hot*.
Originally, I stuck with the show because I liked the concept and the characters but after a few months the show really picked up a notch and became very intense and shocking.
I don't really want to say too much because I don't want to ruin it for anyone but I don't think anyone saw it coming and I now struggle to watch the start of the season in the same way because of what happened.
Something I really like about the show is how it ties in with the Marvel films. When the new Captain America film came out in March the show carried on right where the film left of which is great of big Marvel fans and really shows just how thought out the whole Marvel universe is.
Season one of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D finished in May with many, many cliff hangers which I can barely wait to be resolved in September when the show embarks on its second season.
Below is the first trailer for the show that was aired in September in case you too are intrigued about this show I have recently become obsessed with.

Schhol's Out Playlist // Music Monday

Happy Monday!
I've sort of decided that for the month of August I will dedicate Monday's posts to music, whether that be telling you about a current favourite song or artist or maybe even creating a playlist full of songs I love which is what's going on today.
As August is here, summer is here. Well that's how it works in my mind anyway. As a result of that I've created a playlist full of start of the summer songs. Yes, I know, some of them are rather cheesy but they never fail to put me in a good summer-y mood.
If my technology skills are of an average level then hopefully you'll be able to listen to the playlist below however if they aren't feel free to click here.

Okay, I don't think I'm capable of embedding the player into this post so if you would like to listen to the playlist then please follow the link above.
Thanks for reading and happy listening!

What's in my Summer Bag?

Happy Sunday!
Today I thought I'd create  post telling you all about the essentials that I carry about in my bag on a day-to-day basis. Mainly because I love reading these posts and watching videos on the topic too because its basically just another way to be nosey.
I normally tend to switch between an old black satchel bag that could really do with being replaced or a brown Mischa Barton bag which is also starting to look a little worse for wear.
In the summer, these are some essentials that I like to carry around with me:
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Purse
Phone
Headphones
Plasters
Hand Sanitiser
Deodorant
Perfume/Body Spray
Tissues
A Pen *or usually multiple pens*
Mints
Hair Bands and Hair Grips
A Cereal Bar and Water *only if I know
that I'm likely to need them*

PROM!

Happy Saturday!
All the way back in June I finished year 11 which can only mean one thing and if you hadn't guessed by the title of this post that thing is prom!
I thought I'd give you a little run down of the day and what I wore because I know that leading up to the occasion I didn't really know what to expect or where to even start looking for a dress!
THE DRESS
Now, I know to most it seems a bit risky *and trust me, it did to me as well* but I ordered my prom dress on-line from a website called Dylan Queen. I had often looked at dresses on-line because I had never really been able to find any that I really liked in store however the only thing that persuaded my mum to let me order a dress was that my cousin, who is the same age as me, had recently ordered her dress from there and had no problems, and I'm pleased to say that neither did I! It can be risky ordering things online, especially if its not from a reputable brand. The dress came well with in the estimated delivery time although the postage cost was rather high but that's because it was coming from China. If anything, the dress was a bit big but that's most likely a fault of my own measuring and it also matched the picture on the website really well. Overall, I am rather pleased with my shopping experience from Dylan Queen and I would definitely consider ordering from them again if I ever have another ball type event to go to, although I highly doubt I will.
The dress I chose was a light sky blue with a lace embroidered bodice with small beads and sequins sown on which really caught the light and added a little sparkle to the dress. The back of the dress was sheer lace which is my favourite part and is the main reason why I chose it.

THE HAIR
I was the only one of my friends that didn't have their hair done professionally which at first made me feel a little nervous that I was going to stick out but I really don't think it was noticeable at all. In fact it was sort of the other way around as I was asked  if I had my hair done professionally and they where surprised when I said I'd done it myself (which I found ever so sweet). I basically just curled all of my hair with the BaBylis Curl Secret and then followed this Cute Girls Hairstyles tutorial with my sisters help. It took us about an hour to complete my hair but the majority of that time was spent curling it but that time paid off as the curls stayed in all night!
THE MAKE-UP
I didn't want to look back on my prom photos in ten years time and think "wow what is up with my make up?!" so for that reason I kept it fairly natural and SPF free to avoid flashback in photos.

The products I used were:
Benefit Porefessional
L'Oreal True Match Foundation in R2/C2 - Rose Vanilla
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 - Fair
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in 001 - Transparent
Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in 05 - Eternal Gold
Maybelline Big Eyes Quad in 01 - Luminous Brown
Maybelline 24 Hour Gel Eyeliner in 01 - Black
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless in 001 - Black
Soap and Glory Wonderbronze
Rimmel Lasting Finish Blush in 050 - Live Pink
Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush in 100 - Give Me a Cuddle

A Little Catch Up...

Well hello there and happy August!
How are you all doing?
Now, it may not take a world class investigator to figure out that I've been a little more than inactive in these parts for the past two months and I could bore would with reasons why but I'm not going to because quite frankly I don't have any. I've been out of school for a few months now and in that time I've hardly done anything productive. I've got a pile of work to do before I go back to school in September that I haven't even started on yet, which is very unlike me, and I still even decided what A-levels I'm actually going to do when I go back to school which is very like me. However, I have managed to get myself a little job and leave the house at least a few times a week which is way more than what I did last summer.
I'm pretty sure that I'd like to get back into blogging again, I mean it can't do me any harm, right?
Last year I decided to do the August Challenge so I blogged everyday. I could do the same thing again this year however I don't know how well I'd be able to stick to posting everyday and I don't really want to start something if I can't finish it. I mean, it would be a good challenge, I'm just not sure I'd be able to do it well enough. I also feel like last year my posts were starting to get of quite a low quality so I'm not really proud of them and I don't really want a repeat of that again.
You know what, after saying all that, I think I will at least try to post everyday this August. It's a challenge to myself so why the hell not? If it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. It's not the end of the world.
I think I'll start of by posting what I had already planned and then there will be themed days after that, so every Monday there will a post about the same sort of thing and so on.
I hope you'll enjoy this little temporary change.

Rizzoli & Isles // Goodbye // Review

{CONTAINS SPOILERS OF RIZZOLI & ISLES EP. 5x02 - GOODBYE}

This post is a little different from the reviews that generally take place here but after watching the latest episode of the American crime series, I feel it necessary to write this. I know that a lot of you will have never of heard of Rizzoli & Isles until now so here are a few need-to-know facts:

  • The show revolves around a Boston homicide detective (Jane Rizzoli) and her partner and medical examiner (Maura Isles)
  • Rizzoli & Isles has just embarked on their fifth series on the American cable network TNT
  • The show is based around a series of books written by Tess Gerritson
Last August the show tragically lost one of its main stars Lee Thompson Young and only now has this event been covered in the show.
The episode, entitled Goodbye, is the second episode into season five of R&I and revolves both around the homicide case of a lady with amnesia who believes she killed someone and also the death of Lee Thompson Young and his character Barry Frost.
Before watching the episode I expected it to mainly revolve around the death and funeral of Detective Frost, but in fact the case played quite a proportional part to the episode which I'm glad about because I think an hour of people crying would be a bit too much, despite how deserving Lee is of such a rare emotion. I found the case very intriguing and original and thought the way the writers managed to intertwine the two separate storyline's was very clever.
I've watched Rizzoli & Isles since day one and I can confidently say I've seen every episode at least three times so as a viewer (and a rather large fan) this one was by far the most emotional.
It was a struggle to hold back the tears from the first second when we see Maura being Maura and facetiously arranging a bunch of red roses. The number tears shed increased throughout the episode as each character slowly began to come to terms with the great loss they had all suffered. I found it very interesting how each character reacted in a different way, Jane 'seeing' Barry in the street for example, and also the order in which the writers chose for each character to have their moment as it were. I think that really shows the true personality of each character, way more than any words could.
The funeral for Detective Barry Frost was held near the end of the episode where Jane (played by Angie Harmon) delivered his eulogy and beautifully stated "The good news is that death may have taken Barry but it can't take the memories of him. The wonderful  and perfect memories of him. Those, thank God, are ours to keep." I can't think of a better way to sum up death and I hope to carry those words with me for as long as I shall live.
The episode ended with Jane returning to her apartment and discovering a postcard sent from Frost saying 'couldn't be better here, but I miss you anyway.' which leaves Jane on floor crying as she finally lets out the emotions she had held in for so long. Only now have I realised that the postcard could also be interpreted as a message from Lee himself from where he is now, saying that he is happier but misses his friends and family greatly. I think this is a perfect way to end the episode.

Since Lee's passing, his family have set up the Lee Thompson Young Foundation with the aim to remove the stigma surrounding mental illness. To find out more please visit their website here. You can also donate to this very important cause here, or do something as simple as following them on Twitter

May Faves

Well hello there!
Long time no see, or type as the case may be.
I hope you all enjoyed May as it's now gone of another year. For me, May went ridiculously fast, what with it being full with exams and all, although I now only have 4 exams left so which means that posts will hopefully be more regular again within the next few weeks. If that made sense. Basically everything should be back to normal by the end of the month.
I've found that May hasn't brought many (if ant) new favourites with it, and for that I blame revision. I appear to have just plodded on the same old road and not really changed anything up, but that should no longer be the case now that I'll have much more free time.
Okay, I'm pretty sure none of what I'm typing actually makes any sense. Maybe that's my brain telling me to stop rambling so I can go and do some English revision. But this is pretty much revision, right? I'm going to tell myself yes.
Because of my lack of physical favourites this month I decided to make a playlist of all my favourite songs of the month over on 8tracks *surprise, surprise* which you can listen to HERE or if I am techy enough then you can also click the thing below

Okay, I'm not techy enough, no wait I think I am. I don't know, just click some stuff and hope for the best.
If you're not really in the mood to listen to the whole mix, here are a few of my top picks from the month of May:
Brand New Day - Kodaline (the song they often play during Gogglebox. Anyone else not-so-secretly love that show?)
Be Okay - Ingrid Michaelson (There may or may not be an obsession growing here)

Hopefully I'll see/speak/type to you all soon.
